I found the instructions to be very easy to follow, and crystal clear on the important points. A couple of the projects called for materials that are simply too difficult to find in my area, like 16-foot lengths of 2x. I know it exists, but when you're looking for something to make "furniture" you need better stuff than framing lumber. So, you're off to a specialty lumber yard, which isn't open after work hours, etc.

So, 4 stars for a variety of projects and clarity of instructions then.

Pretty Good Book, September 7, 2009

This was a fairly good book, with enough details. However, the the chair pictured on the front did not have correct angles and had to be adjusted. Directions were easy to follow, and the matching table was easy to make.

This book has great visuals (pics, tables, and diagrams). It has a shopping list for each project and offers tips and alternatives as well.

I'm sort of new to woodworking, so some of the techniques aren't spelled out in as much detail as I need, but that's my fault not the book's.

I love the table. I have wanted one for a long time, but my husband said he had some problems figuring out exactly what to do. He did figure it out, however, and the table looks great. I would definitely buy the plans if I didn't already have them.

This is a very attractive, contemporary, practical jewelry armoire and is exactly what I was looking for. I didn't want to spend a fortune, but needed something that held large quantities of necklaces (without them getting all tangled and knotted up) and this does just that. The only criticism I have is that the drawers could use more dividers - there is not a lot of good space for smaller items such as earrings. Plenty of room for necklaces, rings, bracelets and watches though. At this price you will not find anything better.

This is a fairly cheap piece of furniture, as you'd expect for the price. It is, however, solid enough for something so inexpensive.

The holes for my flip up mirror were drilled off center so I had to re-pilot some new ones to make sure things were even. The top knob on the fake drawer was also mis-drilled for me, so I had to re-do it in order for the knob to sit flush. The inside lining is pretty cheap felt, although at least on my unit it was glued down fairly neatly. Otherwise the drawers and flip out sides lined up properly for me and felt solid.

This doesn't look expensive by any means, but at 1/2 to 1/3 the price of other units the same size, it holds up for the price paid. You won't find a suitable spot for a boatload of jewelry for less.

I do wish the bottom 2 larger drawers had some dividers, as they are fairly large buckets as it is, but that will be easily enough fixed with some additions I'll put in later.

All in all, about what I expected.

I love my jewelry chest! If you've accumulated more than like 5 necklaces you NEED a chest like this! The black espresso finish with brushed nickel knobs and hooks makes for a contemporary new look and is perfect for ALL my jewelry instead of having multiple small jewelry boxes on the dresser. Plus the price was reduced by over 50% when I purchased it. So worth it and space-saving!

I wish I could say something good about this plan - but it basically is just plain BAD! You are not told that the plan has to be taped together - I guess the author feels "beginners" won't mind taping 37 pieces of paper together, that is after cutting them to fit each other! Nor are we told that the plan is HAND WRITTEN! Yeah, this is a "carpenter with 20 years experience", whom apparently is still a beginner himself. I am not even going to waste my time on this "puzzle" of a plan as I cannot trust that the measurements are any better. This will just go into the compost pile. If you want a "real plan" that is of professional quality - that gets you "in the mood" to begin a wood working project, then look into Woodcraft's plans - professionally done for the same price.

Solid zinc steel, very thick gauge. Uses primarily one 90 deg bend for strength, versus the Woodpecker rack which uses a triangular bend arrangement but with much thinner gauge steel (with a letter-slot kind of insert where the lower bend inserts into a slit in the horizontal shelf...I have both). Better value than the Woodpecker version, as it is nearly half the price, although it does hold a few clamps less. I still use and like them both. This is the nearly the same rack Rockler sells at their stores, with their logo imprinted on it...sometimes on sale at the regular price here at Amazon.

I bought this program hoping it would be more geared toward woodworking and furniture design, but it is not. It comes with a few very simple woodworking projects a 13 year old could build, but other then that it is just another simple CAD program. I am very disappointed. It has no templates or shapes. I guess I should have researched it more, but no one seemed to know anything about it. Now you do. Buy a good full featured CAD program instead.
